Being 2D Matters

At BeDimensional, we specialize in the production of high-quality 2D crystals, with a focus on advancing materials that are just a few atoms thick. A key example is graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb structure, with a thickness of only 0.3 nanometers.

According to ISO/TS 80004-13:2017, the exceptional properties of 2D materials, like graphene, are preserved in few-layer crystals (fewer than 10 layers) with a thickness below 3 nanometers.

Performances of 2d materials

BeDimensional has developed a unique exfoliation process that is able to produce crystals with the thickness of just a few atoms. Our process is capable of exfoliating any layered materials, unlocking unprecedented functionalities. In fact, it has been scientifically demonstrated that performances like thermal conductivity, mechanical resistance and electrical transport are inversely proportional to crystal thickness, and reach the maximum value when materials is less than 10 atoms thick..

Our equipment for quality control

Our tools enable rigorous checks on the purity, composition, stability, and structure of 2D materials, ensuring quality and performance to the highest industry standards.

TEM (Transmission Electron Microscope)

We use TEM to characterize the lateral dimensions of flakes. Electron beams capture high-resolution images, revealing the atomic-level crystalline structure of 2D materials. TEM is essential for ensuring material integrity and purity by detecting defects or impurities.

RAMAN (Raman Spectroscopy)

Raman spectroscopy analyzes crystal purity, layer count (graphene), structural defects, and molecular distribution. By examining light scattering, it verifies the number of layers and ensures crystal quality meets required standards.

AFM (Atomic Force Microscope)

AFM measures surface topography at the nanometer scale using a probe that scans the material’s surface. It allows us to assess layer uniformity and verify thickness with precision.

TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis)

TGA measures weight changes as a material is heated, characterizing the amount of residual solvent. It provides insights into thermal stability and composition, ensuring quality standards for temperature-sensitive applications.
