From the collaboration between BeDimensional and Dermacolor comes an innovative high-performance product for the tanning Industry

The collaboration between the Italian deep-tech company and the Tuscan company specializing in tanning chemistry has led to the development of Dermasoft Climaflex BDM, a new solution that integrates two-dimensional crystals to improve the mechanical performance and comfort of leather.

  • Two-dimensional crystals for leather: BeDimensional and Dermacolor present Dermasoft Climaflex BDM
  • The application of two-dimensional crystals in tanning formulations shows a significant improvement for high-value markets, thanks to measurable performance in burst resistance and tear resistance (up to over 80% on certain types of leather) and a reduction in surface temperature of up to -5 °C.
  • This development is part of the company’s broader industrial scaling-up plan, which recently included the announcement of a new production hub in the Livorno area, in the Municipality of Collesalvetti.
  • Tuscany, with its historic tanning district, represents a strategic ecosystem for bringing advanced materials, applied chemistry and leather manufacturing closer together.

Genova / Castelfranco di Sotto (PI), August 5, 2026 – BeDimensional S.p.A., an Italian deep-tech company and leader in the industrial production of two-dimensional materials, and Dermacolor S.r.l., a Tuscan company specialized in the development of chemical intermediates for the tanning industry, announce that they have developed an innovative product dedicated to the leather sector as part of a partnership aimed at developing new technological solutions.

With the goal of providing the tanning supply chain with materials and formulations capable of improving the performance of leather and meeting the needs of sectors such as automotive, footwear, clothing and technical leather goods, Dermasoft Climaflex BDM was created: an innovative tanning auxiliary that combines BeDimensional’s know-how in the production and integration of two-dimensional crystals with Dermacolor’s application expertise in leather processing.

In this product, BeDimensional’s proprietary technology is integrated into formulations developed by Dermacolor. According to tests conducted on treated leathers, the integration of two-dimensional materials makes it possible to increase burst resistance and tear resistance and to significantly improve heat dissipation, reducing surface temperature by up to 5 °C, without requiring changes to traditional production processes.

The synergy is developing within a particularly relevant local context: Dermacolor is based in Castelfranco di Sotto, at the heart of the Tuscan tanning supply chain, an ecosystem recognized for its concentration of industrial, chemical and manufacturing expertise related to leather processing. This will soon be joined by BeDimensional’s new plant in Collesalvetti, within the Interporto Toscano Amerigo Vespucci.

The collaboration between BeDimensional and Dermacolor fits into this ecosystem with the aim of bringing two-dimensional crystals closer to high value-added manufacturing supply chains, enhancing complementary expertise and contributing to the technological evolution of one of the emblematic districts of Made in Italy.

“The product development carried out with Dermacolor strengthens BeDimensional’s journey within the leather supply chain and confirms the ability of two-dimensional crystals to generate value even in highly traditional manufacturing sectors,” said Andrea Gamucci, Marketing Director of BeDimensional. “This development is taking place in an area that combines tanning excellence, industrial expertise and a strong inclination toward innovation. It is precisely in ecosystems like this that advanced materials can find concrete and transformative applications. Thanks to our two-dimensional crystals, it is possible to improve the functional characteristics of leather, offering the market higher-performing, lighter and more sustainable solutions.”

“The collaboration with BeDimensional allows us to explore new frontiers for tanning chemistry, integrating advanced materials into solutions designed to respond to the future needs of the sector,” commented Andrea Meucci, owner of Dermacolor. “It is a project born from the meeting of research, application experience and attention to leather performance, with the aim of supporting the evolution of the supply chain toward increasingly innovative and functional products.”

BeDimensional continues its path of applying two-dimensional crystals across various industrial sectors, bringing its technology into a historic and strategic supply chain for Made in Italy. The meeting with Dermacolor makes it possible to enhance the potential of advanced materials in the leather sector, where performance, quality, sustainability and the ability to innovate processes are increasingly decisive factors for market evolution and for the competitiveness of the industry.
